Solar Ku Midzi Solar Electric Pressure Cooker

More than 90% of household energy use in Malawi is for cooking. With our Solar Cookers, families can use solar energy to cook staple meals, saving money and time used to gather wood or buy fuel. We aim to provide Malawians with a smoke-free, more sustainable alternative than cooking with charcoal.

Each cooker systems consists of one or two 370W solar panels, a voltage converter (MPPT Maximum Power Point Tracker), an on/off switch and a custom-designed Direct Current (DC) electric pressure cooker with 5 liter pot in an insulated shell. Upgrade options include adding a second solar panel with larger voltage converter and/or adding one 19 volt or two 12volt Forever Batteries. Even the basic system can easily cook energy intensive nsima (stiff corn porridge) or nyemba (beans).
